2009 January Meeting Minutes

1/28 Best Speaker: Rhonda L. "The First Language"
Today Rhonda presented her overview of Hebrew language, and about her project of translating the Bible. This speech is project 2 in the Competent Communication manual with the following objectives:
Get to the Point (5 to 7 minutes)
was "Speak with Sincerity" - before that - "Be In Earnest"
  • Select a speech topic and determine its general and specific purposes.

  • Organize the speech in a manner that best achieves those purposes.

  • Ensure the beginning, body and conclusion reinforce the purposes.

  • Project sincerity and conviction and control any nervousnes you may feel.

    1/28 Best Table Topics Answer Stuart Hilderman
    Stuart was asked what would be his most favorite commercial during football season.

    Speaker: Jean D. "The Seasoned Skaters".
    Jean told us about how she enjoying the Annual Hockey Tournament for all level players on a very cold early morning. This speech is project 4 in the Competent Communication manual with the following objectives:
    Your Body Speaks (5 to 7 minute)
    was "Show What You Mean"
  • Use stance, movement, gestures, facial expressions and eye contact to express your message and achieve your speech’s purpose.

  • Make your body language smooth and natural.


  • Word of the Day: philomath. A lover of learning; a scholar.

    Today we learned all about Jim both past and present. This speech is project 1 in the Competent Communication manual with the following objectives:
    The Ice Breaker (4 to 6 minutes)
  • To begin speaking before an audience

  • To help you understand what areas require particular emphasis in your speaking development.

  • To introduce yourself to your fellow club members.

    The TM decided to skip the Table Topics.
    We should try to always have this session as a portion of the Toastmaster meeting.

    Anh shared with us her most favorite three Christmas presents this year involving her family.
